Our story

Touching the nature
in its heights

Elaveezhapoonchira, also spelled Ilaveezhapoonchira — the valley where leaves don't fall.

About the valley

A small hill station, 3,700 ft up

Elaveezhapoonchira is a picnic spot and hill station set among the beautiful hillocks of Kanjar, near Thodupuzha in Kerala — 3,700 feet above sea level, and an ideal spot for trekking. It's easily reached from Palai in Kottayam district.

Surrounded by three enchanting hillocks — Mankunnu, Kodayathoormal and Thonippara — the terrain makes this one of the best trekking destinations in the state. The ideal time to visit is post-monsoon, from September through January.

It remains one of Kerala's comparatively unspoiled tourist destinations, 55 km from Kottayam and 26 km from Thodupuzha. Ilaveezhapoonchira means "the valley where leaves don't fall," so named because the place has no trees — and it's also one of the best spots in Kerala to watch both sunrise and sunset.

Four hillocks, one valley

At the spot you can view four hillocks with a verdant valley between them. From the top of one, Kudayathoor Vindhyan, you can see across large parts of Idukki, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur districts — along with excellent sunrise and sunset views.

Guided treks, on your schedule

We organise treks on weekends or on request, travelling through the mountains and wilderness areas surrounding the resort. Long treks are arranged occasionally. Many of our guests are expatriates who live or have lived in Chennai and Bangalore, alongside travellers from further afield — all looking for a genuine break from urban and corporate life.

Our pathfinders lead every trekking team. They're usually from the local area and know the terrain intimately — skilled at identifying new trails and navigating unfamiliar ground. Along the way they've discovered new streams, hidden waterfalls, unusual rock formations and other unexpected scenic spots. All transport is handled in our own 4x4 jeeps.
